Wednesday 7th august seen twenty two intermediates race for the “Chairmans” cup. Padraig Cahill swam a great race to take first place, just ahead of Aoife Farrell in second and Niamh Fitzpatrick in third. The same night the senior’s swam for the “Irish Rubies” cup, sponsored by the Leitrim; 1st Karen Sheeky, 2nd Sarah Doyle and 3rd Amanda Malone.
The “Club Vartry” was held on Saturday 10th August. This is one of the oldest races in the club, 65th year, and is kindly sponsored by Fitzpatricks of Rathnew. Ninety nine swimmers started the 2.2K course, which starts at the Murrough railings and finishes at the Parnell Bridge. Carmel O’Toole swam very well and kept ahead of the closing pack, to take first place in the ladies race, just ahead of her son Ross O’Toole won the men’s race. Result; Ladies 1st Carmel O’Toole, 2nd Aoife Fitzpatrick,3rd Katie Sreenan, 4th Linda O’Neill. Men; 1st Ross O’Toole, 2nd Niall Jameson, 3rd Gus Cooney, 4th Barry Cahill.
Results for Sunday 11th August. Junior Sprints; Under 8 boys;1st Harri Armstrong, 2nd Charlie Brennan, 3rd Jacob Fry. Under 8 Girls; 1st Sadhbh Drennan,2nd Sienna Brennan,3rd Ellie-May Brennan. No under 10 boys. Under 10 girls; 1st Kym Humby, 2nd Evie Humby, 3rd Dirrean Drennan. Under 12 boys: 1st Dylan O’Donovan, 2nd William Seymore, 3rd Luigi Rea* (under 10). Under 12 girls: 1st Ava Frazer, 2nd Emma Smith, 3rd Kiara O’Sullivan
The Intermediates swam for the “Mark Dunne Memorial”,1st Aoife Dunne, 2nd Megan Rea,3rd Dylan O’Donovan. Youths; 1st Nicole Humby, 2nd Callum Rea, 3rd Rachel Millea. Forty nine swimmers swam in the “Masters Vartry” Men; 1st Billy Forde, 2nd John Hogan, 3rd Denis O’Brien, Women; 1st Margaret McCormick, 2nd Karen O’Brien, 3rd Sharon Vize.
Events for the coming week are; Wednesday 14th August at 7.15pm the “Tom Spilane” cup… Registerstration for Tom Spillane cup, is up at the Murrough(around car park) from 6.45pm. Races on Sunday 18th August 10.15am junior sprints, 10.30am Junior Challenge, 11am “Earls Cup” intermediates, 11.30am youths and 12 noon the “Brennan Cup”.
