Wicklow Swimming Club results week ending Sunday 19th July 2015
Swimming races started last week on Tuesday 14th July with the Youths “Across the Harbour” swim, fifteen young swimmers swam a distance of 850 metres; 1st Cathal McRuairi, 2nd Aoife-Marie Sheekey and 3rd Emma Kristensen. The Seniors had a longer distance of 1000 metres for their “Across the Harbour” race; Conal O’Sullivan took first place, with Kathy Owens in second and Selina Lennox in third place. Both, the Youths and Senior 100 Yard Dash’s along with the Junior – Conway Bay relay, had to be postponed on Thursday 16th July, due to very heavy rain, these races will be rescheduled.

Sunday morning 19th July was very busy as 185 swimmers of all ages competed in races. The Juniors were first in the water with fifty five of them swimming in the sprints;

Under 6 Boys: 1st Kian Copeland 2nd Lucas Avelling 3rd Bill Guinan.

Under 6 Girls: 1st Mei Wilson.

Under 8 Boys: 1st David Johnston 2nd Ben Fry 3rd Jacob Fry.

Under 8 Girls: 1st Sarah Coleman Kelly 2nd Niamh Waters 3rd Anya Wilson.

Under 10 Boys: 1st Harri Armstrong 2nd John Ahearne 2rd Brian Johnston.

Under 10 Girls: 1st Emma Waters 2nd Aine Vize 3rd Saoirse Dolan.

Under 12 Girls: 1st Robyn Johnston 2nd Lauren Hasler 3rd Maya Gaynor.

Under 12 Boys: 1st George Lawrenson 2nd Charlie Pearse 3rd Chris Devereux.

Under 14 Boys: 1st James Lawrenson

There were twenty juniors swimming in the Junior Challenge; Sarah Flood took first place, with Olivia O’Donovan in second and Maya Gaynor in third place.

The Intermediates were swimming for the Shannen-May memorial cup, over a course of 500 metres. Twenty two swimmers competed in this race; Mia Cowdrey took the lead just before the last buoy and held on to take first place ahead of Hall Fitzgerald in second and Nicky Moulders in third.

The Youths had a long swim of 950 meters for their race, with a field of twelve swimmers. Padraigh Cahill had a fantastic swim and took first place with Rhiann Drennan in second and Dylan O’Donnovan in third place.

There was a large field of ninety six swimmers competing for the “Rocky Newsome” cup over a course of approximately 1200 meters. This was another exciting race, with Buddy Kinsella taking the lead, with 75 meters to go and holding on to take first place, just ahead of Catroina O’Dwyer in second and Colm Corrigan in third place.

Racing for this week starts Wednesday 22nd July at 18.45 Intermediate – Peter Davis cup & 19.15 seniors race for the Irish Rubies cup. Racing for Sunday 26th July starts at 10.15am Junior Sprints, 10.30am Junior Challenge, and 11 am Intermediate – Mini Harbour cup, 11am Youths – Mick O’Reilly cup, and 12 noon – the seniors race for the Mick O’Reilly memorial cup.
