Weather conditions were calm and warm for the swimming races on Sunday 12th June. One hundred and seventy four swimmers of all ages took part in the four categories of events.
First up were the Junior sprints with forty four young people racing; Under 6 Boys:1st Bill Guinan.
Under 6 Girls:1st Ruth Connolly 2nd Sadbh Tyrell.
Under 8 Boys:1st Kian Copeland 2nd Frank Ahearne 3rd Ted Hasler.
Under 8 Girls:1st Lauren Beacom 2nd Ruby Hasler 3rd Erica Huilin.
Under 10 Boys:1st Jacob Fry 2nd Andre Kravchenko 3rd Joss Huilin.
Under 10 Girls:1st Amy Noble 2nd Sienna Brennan 3rd Aine Vize.
Under 12 Boys;1st Brian Johnston 2nd Mike Connolly.
Under 12 Girls:1st Eadaoin O’Keane 2nd Laura Griffin 3rd Saoirse Dolan.
Under 14 Boys:1st Luigi Rea.
The Junior challenge was next; 1st Aine Vize, 2nd Jacob fry, 3rd Marie Galligan.
Eighteen Intermediates raced for the Jack Malone cup; 1st Charlie Pierce, 2nd Mia McCann, 3rd Nathan O’Connor.
The Youths were swimming for the Binnion cup, kindly sponsored by the Binnion family, sixteen competitors swam 450 metres in a race that seen Conor McInerney take first place, with Emma Kristensen in second and Emily Clark in third place.
There were ninety six seniors swimming 600 metres for the Bank of Ireland cup; 1st Brian Kelly, 2nd Claire Moulders, 3rd Tara Kilalea.
Racing for this week starts on Friday evening with the first of the Open Sea-Swims. The men’s race starts at 18:45 and the women’s race starts at 19:30. The start point is at Travalhawk with finish at The Glen Strand, The course measures approximately 1.5km.There is limited parking at the start point and finish points with additional parking available at St Patrick’s GAA Club. The presentation of prizes will take place after both races in St Patrick’s GAA Club. Racing for Sunday 19th June starts at 10.15am Junior Sprints, 10.30am Junior Challenge, 11 am Intermediates – Humby family cup, 11am Youths – Drennan cup, and 12 noon – the seniors race for the Humby family cup (Vartry Garage).
