Sunday the 23rd of August

Light to moderate, but, persistent rain and calm water was the setting for the races on Sunday morning 23rd August.

The juniors were the first up with the sprints;

Under 6 Girls: 1st Erica Huilin.

Under 8 Boys: 1st Andriy Kravchencko 2nd David Johnston 3rd Chris Huilin.

Under 8 Girls: 1st Niamh Waters 2nd Jill Connolly 3rd Evie Woods.

Under 10 Boys: 1st Joss Huilin 2nd Kai Fitzsimons 3rd Harri Armstrong .

Under 10 Girls: 1st Emma Waters.

Under 12 Boys; 1st Luigi Rea.

Under 12 Girls: 1st Laura Griffin.

Under 14 Girls: 1st Amy Doyle.

Fourteen juniors swam the Junior challenge, with Emma Waters finishing in first place, second was Laura Griffin and Jacob fry in third place.

The Intermediates were next up with the Clarke – Delahunt cup; 1st Rhonna Lennox,2nd Mattew Leonard, 3rd Mia McCann.

The Youths swam for the new Mick O’Reilly cup, Ben Griffin put in a great swim to finish first, with Ciara Brennan second and Dylan O’Donnovan in third place.

The seniors were racing for the Mick O’Reilly memorial cup and had a long course of about 1450 meters. Cathroina Carey swam a fantastic race to finish first and get her name on the cup, Aileen Hogan was second and Paul Fox third. The club would like to thank Chad & Crossfit for the use of their premises on such a wet day.

Congratulations have to go to all the Wicklow Nippers for their performance at the Surf-Rescue competition and Roisin Hennessy who won the Womens Dun Laoighre Harbour race.

The final week of racing starts on Wednesday evening, 26th August, with the Conway relay for the Junior, Intermediate and Youth swimmers. This race will be starting earlier than usual, please check times, And at 7.15pm the seniors race for the Tom Spillane cup. The final day of competitive swimming is on Sunday 30th August starting at 10.15am; Junior Sprints, 10.30am Junior Challenge, 11am Intermediate – Captains race, 11am Youths race, and 12 noon the seniors race for the McAulay shield – Lighthouse race.
