The monsoon season that we are experiencing at the moment hasn’t put a damper on things at Wicklow Swimming club. The past eleven days have been very busy for the club.

First up are results for Wednesday 4th of July.

The intermediate section swam for the Kenny cup and results were:  1st Padraig Cahill, 2nd Rhona Lennox and 3rd was Luke Whyte.

The same evening ninety six seniors raced for the “Ral Brien” memorial cup, 1st Paul Fox, 2nd Shay Jameson, 3rd Liam Whitty.

Results for Sunday 8th July:

In the 3rd Youths race of the year, the results were as follows:  1st Ronan Conway, 2nd Emma O’Brien, 3rd Hanna Blake.

The Intermediates swam for the Clarke Delahunt cup, with following result:  1st Patrick Keogh, 2nd Aoife Marie Sheeky, 3rd Conor Vize .

The annual Bay relay was the last race on 8th July, and a very exciting event it turned out to be.  This is the 43rd year of the Bay relay, which as always, is kindly sponsored by John Flood. Twelve teams of seven swimmers competed in this event, which had a very close finish for the line. The relay was won by the Yellow Team who were Barry Cahill, Vicky Johnson, Katie O’Neill, Johanna Hamilton, Deirdre Fitzgerald, Gary Morton (Team captain) , Mairead Keighery.

Wednesday 11th of July

Again Ninety six senior swimmers took to the water to race for the Regatta cup, sponsored by Forkin Estates, Wicklow Town.  Threasa  Sheeky swam the race of her life, taking the lead very early and managed to keep the other ninety five swimmers in her rear view mirror as she crossed the line in first place, followed home to the winner’s enclosure by 2nd Colm Corrigan, 3rd Hilary O’Dwyer and 4th Carmel O’Toole.

Sunday 15th July

First up from Sunday 15th of July, was the Junior challenge, with the following result:  1st Emma Kristiansen, 2nd Anna Moulders, 3rd Darragh Cahill, 4th Dara Owens, 5th Rhian Drennan and 6th Ciaran Carey.

Next was the Youths race, where 1st was Amy O’Brien, 2nd Aishling Garland and 3rd Kate Hennessy.

Twenty three intermediates swam for the Shannon May memorial cup, which ended up a very exciting race with a very close finish that saw 1st Alexandra Spenser, 2nd Rhona Lennox and 3rd Niamh Fitzpatrick.

One hundred and four swimmers took part in the “Rocky Newsome” cup and another close finish saw Julie Roche take first place, 2nd Lynn Duffy and 3rd Linda O’Neill.

12 noon The Phil Healy cup.
