Minor Race Results & Intermediate Challenge

A MASSIVE thank you to ALL the parents (& non-parents) who helped make the Minor Race such a success & the Intermediate Challenge a reality!  Neither would have been possible without your help & Support.
A special thanks to Mary Aldridge for her rope & to Roisin Hennessy & Pasquale Rea for the use of their dry bags……!

Minor Race
Well done to all the Minor swimmers who took to the water last Sunday, on what can only be described as, a ‘pretty miserable morning’.
23 swimmers took part in what is the most prestigious event in the Junior calendar – the Watson Cup Race.  Many congratulations to Patrick O’Keane, who pulled out all the stops to touch the line first.  Well done also to Laura Whitty in 2nd & to Megan Rea in 3rd.  Sam Hennessy & Aine Cahill must also be mentioned for the closest and most nail-biting finish EVER in the junior races.  A very tough one to call!
A special well-done must also go to the 2 youngest swimmers Rhona Lennox & Aoife-Marie Sheeky for completing what was a pretty tough swim.
Comhghairdeas gach duine!
What a GREAT Swimming summer – great races and some lovely clear water.  Even a few waves to throw in a bit of variation.  Make sure to keep swimming over the winter……..

Intermediate Challenge
Shortly after the Minor Race, the Intermediates took to the water for their first ever swim ‘out the back’ of the pier.  Jumping in with glee by the ladder, they swum away from the pier and in a triangle back to the ladder.  With kayaks and a few adults alsongside them, all the intermediates did brilliantly & thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Well done to Luke Corcoran & Emma O’Brien – first home.
Finally, I’d like to say how much I enjoyed the season and how encouraging it was to see all the new intermediates starting this year.  We had great numbers over the whole summer.  Keep up the good work during the winter and I hope to see you all next year.
Karen
