Wicklow swimming club’s third and final Open sea event was held on Sunday 26^th August, when One hundred and forty five swimmers from clubs all over the east coast raced for the Healy-O’Kane cups.

Results:

Ladies section:1^st Anne McAdam (Phoenix), 2nd Heike Connors (Wexford Masters), 3^rd Nicola Gillilano (Eastern Bay)
4^th Jenny Hickey (NAC Masters) and 5^th Cathroina Carey Wicklow.

Men’s section: 1^st Eamon Dempsey, 2nd Frank Carroll, 3^rd Simon McLean, 4^th Andriu McGuigan and 5^th Aidan Robertson.

These races were kindly sponsored by the Healy- O’Kane families.

The Black Castle Swim, for the Cullen and PV Reilly cups, was held on Tuesday 28^th August. Eighty one swimmers braved tough conditions, to swim from Travellahawk beech to the Lifeboat slip. Men’s result for the Cullen cup: 1^st Sean Fitzpatrick, 2^nd Cormac Murnane, 3rd Dermot Hickey.   Ladies results for the PV Reilly cup result: 1^st Katie Sreenan, 2^nd Mary Burbage, and 3rd Linda O’Neill.    Prizes kindly sponsored by the Cullen Family.

The last two races of the club calendar were held on Thursday 30^th August. The intermediates swam for the captain’s cup, 1^st Aoife Marie Sheeky, 2^nd Laura Whitty, 3^rd Christopher Hudson. The last race of the year was the Lighthouse race for the McAulay Shield.  Seventy four swimmers took to the water, in what turned out to be a very tough race.   The strong tide didn’t bother Aimee Armstrong as she won her second race of the year, 2^nd Joanna Hamilton, 3^rd Simon McLean and 4^th Thomas Keogh.
