The monsoon season that we are experiencing at the moment hasn’t put a damper on things at Wicklow Swimming club. The past eleven days have been very busy for the club.

First up are results for Wednesday 4th of July.

The intermediate section swam for the Kenny cup and results were:  1^st Padraig Cahill, 2^nd Rhona Lennox and 3^rd was Luke Whyte.

The same evening ninety six seniors raced for the “Ral Brien” memorial cup, 1^st Paul Fox, 2^nd Shay Jameson, 3^rd Liam Whitty.

Results for Sunday 8^th July:

In the 3^rd Youths race of the year, the results were as follows:  1st Ronan Conway, 2^nd Emma O’Brien, 3^rd Hanna Blake.

The Intermediates swam for the Clarke Delahunt cup, with following result:  1^st Patrick Keogh, 2^nd Aoife Marie Sheeky, 3^rd Conor Vize .

The annual Bay relay was the last race on 8^th July, and a very exciting event it turned out to be.  This is the 43^rd year of the Bay relay, which as always, is kindly sponsored by John Flood. Twelve teams of seven swimmers competed in this event, which had a very close finish for the line. The relay was won by the Yellow Team who were Barry Cahill, Vicky Johnson, Katie O’Neill, Johanna Hamilton, Deirdre Fitzgerald, Gary Morton (Team captain) , Mairead Keighery.

Wednesday 11^th of July

Again Ninety six senior swimmers took to the water to race for the Regatta cup, sponsored by Forkin Estates, Wicklow Town.  Threasa  Sheeky swam the race of her life, taking the lead very early and managed to keep the other ninety five swimmers in her rear view mirror as she crossed the line in first place, followed home to the winner’s enclosure by 2^nd Colm Corrigan, 3^rd Hilary O’Dwyer and 4^th Carmel O’Toole.

Sunday 15^th July

First up from Sunday 15^th of July, was the Junior challenge, with the following result:  1^st Emma Kristiansen, 2^nd Anna Moulders, 3^rd Darragh Cahill, 4^th Dara Owens, 5^th Rhian Drennan and 6^th Ciaran Carey.

Next was the Youths race, where 1^st was Amy O’Brien, 2^nd Aishling Garland and 3^rd Kate Hennessy.

Twenty three intermediates swam for the Shannon May memorial cup, which ended up a very exciting race with a very close finish that saw 1^st Alexandra Spenser, 2nd Rhona Lennox and 3^rd Niamh Fitzpatrick.

One hundred and four swimmers took part in the “Rocky Newsome” cup and another close finish saw Julie Roche take first place, 2^nd Lynn Duffy and 3^rd Linda O’Neill.
