On Wednesday evening 22nd August, twenty Intermediates raced for the Earls cup over a course of 400 metres. It was a very close finish with following coming out on top: 1st Niamh Fitzpatrick, 2nd Connor Brennan and 3rd Megan Rae.
The same night saw ninety senior swimmers take to the water for the Tom Spillane cup, with the following result : 1st Major Brennan, 2nd Donal McGuire and 3rd Gerard McHugh. These races were kindly sponsored by the Earls and Hudson families.
Sunday 26th August was the last Sunday of fixtures for the Swimming Club and conditions were good as the Juniors took to the water for the last Junior Challenge of the year: 1st Emma Christiansen, 2nd Ciara Brennan, 3rd Eve Cowdrey, 4th Cathal Teevan, 5thJosh Griffin and 6th Dylan O’Donnovan.
In the Youth section Elenor Dunne won her first race of the season, 2nd Aishling Garland, 3rd Megan Sherrin and fastest time was Emer Kelly.
The intermediates swam for the Cleary cup: 1st Padraig Cahill, 2nd Nichole Huumby and 3rd Luke Corcoran.
Eighty nine senior’s raced for the Sean Kelly memorial Cup, sponsored by the Kelly family and Gillespe took first place, 2nd Mairead Keighery and 3rd Damien Leonard.
The last three swims of the year are as follows: Tuesday 28 August at 7.15pm the Black Castle, Thursday 30th Captains cup (intermediate) and the McAuley Shield (Senior) at 7.15pm. There are no Senior or Intermediate races on Wednesday 29th August.
On next Saturday 1st of September, the Glen Bay Challenge will take place. Swimmers are advised that they must be Swim Ireland members to swim the Glen Bay Challenge.
