Members and friends of Wicklow Swimming Club turned out in force on St. Stephen’s Day to brave the chilly waters of Wicklow harbour for the annual charity swim. Held this year in aid of the local branch of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, the event proved a spectator success with the President Pat Byrne officially giving the off as the group of more than 50 members and friends of Club took the plunge.
Raising an impressive €570 for the charity it seems pockets proved deep as swimmers and spectators alike gave generously, helped and possibly coerced in no small measure by our Japanese Geisha, Pauline Doyle – thanks Pauline! Due to an accidental time-clash with the Streets of Wicklow Run it appears that some would-be swimmers and on-lookers missed the starter’s orders – if you would still like to donate to the funds raised for SVP, please contact either John McCall or Mary Aldridge.
