Swim results 28st July 2013

It was a busy two weeks with fantastic weather for the Wicklow swimming Club, with  five days of races being held. On Tuesday 16th July,  the Youths swam 1000 metres down the bay: 1st Nicole Devitt, 2nd Hanna Blake, 3rd Aisling Garland. Ninety six seniors swam for the “McArdle” Cup and the Spina Bifda Cup. Cormac Murnane swam a fantastic last 200 metres to take 1st place and the “McArdle” cup, just ahead of Jan-Uve Kristiansen in 2nd and Brendan Conway in 3rd place. The ladies race was also a very close finish, Mary Aldridge swam a great race to take 1st place and the “Spina Bifda” cup, just ahead of Linda O’Neill in 2nd and Joanna Hamilton in 3rd place.

Racing on Thursday 18th July,started with the Intermediate Conway cup relay. The winning team were: Captain Emer Kelly, Tara Farrell, Chris Hudson, Alexandra Spencer, Aine Cahill, Ruby van beck, Josh Griffen,  Emma smith, Matthew Leonard, Harri Armstrong & Rosin Vize. The 100 yd dash was also held to see who the fastest man and women are in the club, Aaron Fitzpatrick and Rosin Hennessey took the honours. This year an over 40 section was held, which seen Gary Morton and Karen Copeland win their races. In the under 16 section Emer Kelly and Thomas Keogh were the fastest.

Sunday 21st July was overcast but warm with good conditions on the water. Races started with the junior sprints: U8 Boys: 1st, Cian Leonard, 2nd Harri Armstrong, 3rd John Ahern.U8 Girls:1st Ellen Tracy, 2nd S Brennan, 3rd Kelly O’Neill. U10 Boys; 1st Adam Ralph, 2nd Matthew Leonard, 3rd Niki Molders, U10 Girls; 1st Mia Kristiansen, 2nd Dirren Drennan, 4th Tara McCall, under 12 boys; 1st Oisin O’Neill. 2nd Jamie Collmen Kelly, 3rd Dylan O’Donovan. U12 Girls; 1st Ruby Vambeck, 2nd Mia Finn, 3rd Kiara O’Sullivan. U14 Boys; 1st Ben Griffen. U14 Girls; 1st Amy Brennan.

Twenty four Intermediates swam for the “Coello” cup, sponsored by Threasa Sheeky. This was a very fast swim over 400 metres, and seen Dylan O’Donnovan take 1st place, 2nd Ciara brennan and 3rd Alexandra Spencer. The Youths had a thousand metre swim down the bay, even so, it was another close finish with Aine Cahill in 1st place, 2nd Patrick McCarthy and 3rd Hanna Blake. Ninety eight seniors swam 1100 metres in strong tides, for the “Rocky Newsome” memorial cup, sponsored by the Newsome family. Young Gary Morton got an early lead and held on to it to take first place, followed by Kathleen Cowdrey in 2nd, and 3rd Fergus O’Conchobhair.

There were two races on Wednesday 24th July. The Intermediates  raced for the Peter Davis cup; 1st Connor Brennan, 2nd Niamh Fitzpatrick, 3rd Patrick Keogh. Ninety nine seniors swam for the “Smith” cup. 1st liam Whitty, 2nd Remi Baltrusaitis, 3rd Hilary O’Dwyer.

Races started on Sunday 28th July with the Junior sprints. U8 Boys; 1st Harri Armstrong, 2nd Charlie Brennan, 3rd Jacob Fry.  U8 Girls; 1st Saoirse Dolan, 2nd Kelly O’Neill, 3rd Sienna Brennan. U10 Boys; 1st Niki Molders, 2nd Adam Ralph, 3rd Conal Molloy. U10 Girls; 1st Robyn Johnston, 2nd Mia Cowdrey, 3rd Robyn Brennan. 12 Boys; 1st Jamie Collmen Kelly, 2nd Oisin O’Neill, 3rd Dylan O’Donovan. U12 Girls; 1st Emma Smith, 2nd Eve Cowdrey, 3rd Ruby Vambeck. U14 Boys; 1st Chris Hudson. U14 Girls; 1st Coaimhe Molloy, 2nd Amy Brennan. U16 Boys; 1st Luke Corcoran. U16 Girls: 1st Emer Corcoran, 2nd Jill Humby, 3rd Emily Humby. Twenty Intermediates swam their longest race of the year around the harbour, 1st Eve Cowdrey, 2nd Eoin Sreenan and 3rd William Seymour. The Youths swam a course of 1200 metres out in the bay. Emma O’brien put in a great swim to take First place and fastest time, with Nicole Devitt second and Hanna Blake third. One hundred and three Seniors took to the water for the Mick O’Reilly cup.  Handicapper Tom O’Neill sent the swimmers on a long one about 1600 metres in length.  Simon McClean proved his fitness as he powered in the pier to take first place just ahead of Michael Farrell in second and Jackie Hudson in third.

There are two swims on during the Regatta: the “Black Castle” swim is on Friday Night at 7pm, starting at Travelahawk beach and finishing at the Lifeboat slip. The Wicklow swimming club’s “Open Sea” swim is on Sunday 4th August, Gents race starts at 1pm and Ladies race starts at 1.45pm. Beach clean up on Sunday morning at 10 am – volunteers needed.

 

There are no Junior, Intermediate or youth races this Sunday. Remember, we are doing a Beach clean up on Sunday morning at 10 am – volunteers needed, Just Turn Up :).
