Wicklow Swimming Club results Week ending 26th July 2015
Conditions were good for the evening races on Wednesday 22nd July. First up, were the Intermediates, swimming for the Peter Davis cup. This was a close race, with all swimmers finishing within 57 seconds of each other;1st Conall Molloy, 2nd Mattew Leonard and 3rd Adam Ralph. Eighty five seniors took to the water for the Irish Rubies cup. This was a long course of about 1100 metres Sam Hennessy put in a great swim to take first place, just ahead of Mary Doyle in second and Dan Brennan third.
It was like the middle of winter on Sunday morning 26th July, wet and windy. But this didn’t stop some Juniors swimming their sprints; Under 8 boys; 1st Oscar O’Brien, 2nd Jacob Fry, 3rd Andriy Kravachenko. Under 8 girls; 1st Evie Woods, 2nd Sarah Coleman-Kelly, 3rd Niamh Walters. Under 10 boys; 1st Chris Bouchier, 2nd Charlie Pierce, 3rd Elliot Gaynor. Under 10 girls 1st Saoirse Dolan, 2nd Emma Walters. Under 12 girls; 1st Amy Doyle, 2nd Sarah Flood, 3rd Maya Gaynor.
The twelve Intermediates deserve special mention for completing a tough swim, about 400 metres long with choppy water all the way in the pier; 1st Lily Devitt, 2nd Ava Frazer and in third place Jessica Ryan.
The wind and rain just got heavier, which led to the postponement of the new Mick O’Reilly race for the Youths and the Mick O’Reilly senior race.
